Stage design for Die Fledermaus operetta.
2016, Valencia, Spain
Remake of Die Fledermaus (“The revenge of the Bat”, “The Bat”), an operetta composed by Johann Strauss II to a German libretto by Karl Haffner
and Richard Genée.This scenography project was made by Interior Design students from the EASD. It was a group project where we designed, managed and built the stage and the ilumination of this operetta that took place on June 2016 at the Conservatorio Superior de Música “Joaquín Rodrigo”.
The performance was divided into three acts:
ACT I_Rosalinde and Eisenstein’s house
Hall, living room, bedroom, roof and the servant’s room.
ACT II_A boat
The surface of a boat and a pool.
ACT III_A prison
A prison with a desk and some cells.
The group developped an idea to create the scenography by using some modules for all the acts and only changing some of the atrezzo. These modules were very simple wood frames that we built and painted.
Besides, we also designed the big chandelier which represented the high standard family and we added one simple big light bulb in the middle to represent the very poor conditions in the prison (we would only turn it on when they were performing the ACT III).
